About Us

The Munising Community History Project is a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and share the history of our town, Munising, Michigan, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan at-large.

We are currently in the process of applying for 501c3 status.

We were founded in 2026 with the goal of building space for our community to gather and share the history of our town together.

Works in Progress:

Our organization seeks to complete three different branches of engagement:

  • First, we plan to hold fall & winter talks for our community to gather and learn about the history of various Upper Peninsula topics
  • Second, we plan to conduct walking tours of our town during the summer with the goal to share the rich history of Munising with visitors, and to learn more about the town by engaging with residents to add to the records of what we know about Munising
  • Third, we plan to complete different digital projects to better collect, preserve, and share the town’s history
